Letter to an Ignorant Nation

I am constantly amazed at the abandon with which people will publicly display their willful ignorance. There seems to be a strong current within mainstream society that takes solace in the fact that many of their beliefs are deeply, and overtly, irrational. I can remember (or at least I hope I can) when there was a stigma attached to saying things that were blatantly offensive to logic, when professing elitist teachings fell considerably short of their goal, only succeeding to place you in the seemingly ‘unthinking’ minority. But today, I am noticing a profusion of cringe-worthy statements from the ‘lay’ right up to politicians and our supposed spiritual leaders. Even worse than this is the pride and delight that these people take in the fact that they view their opinions as evidence of personal strength and conviction, and that they are not ‘conforming to PC views’ (a rhetoric I am quickly becoming tired of). There is a difference between challenging censorship and challenging common sense.
